During the last few weeks in English Prep. we’ve been studying the past simple of both regular (+ed) and irregular verbs. We’ve done all kinds of different exercises: Through contextual gap filling activities with the correct form of the verb. Studying nursery rhymes like “The old woman and the shoe”. Recounting our daily routines through free writing. Playing a memory game and matching the verb in the infinitive with the same verb in the past simple. Etc… But of all the exercises we’ve done, by far the most fun has been the relay race. The rules are simple. Three captains chose their teams and they stand facing the whiteboard. On it a list of 10 verbs in the infinitive (some regular, but mostly irregular). They then race to be the first to complete the list. They can do it in the order they wish, either starting with the ones they know, or taking the harder ones as to leave easier ones for their team mates.
